Lewis wins 135-mile extreme challenge

One of the most grueling races in the United States is the Badwater Ultra-marathon, with only 100 runners from around the world qualifying to participate in this elite competition held in California.
The 38-year old Lewis won for the first time in four attempts, on the 37th anniversary of the event.
The 135-mile World Championship event featured a new route based in the town of Lone Pine, and it did not pass through Death Valley National Park this year, due to a recent ban on athletic events there.
The 20-14 course featured over 17-thousand feet of elevation gains, two dramatic ascents into the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and a 15-mile dirt road-trek into an authentic ghost town. Harvey Lewis, a school teacher from the state of Ohio, finished first in a time of 23 hours, 52 minutes, and 55 seconds.
The 38-year old won for the first time in four attempts, on the 37th anniversary of the event. Mauhgan Grant of Australia took second place, while Sa Carlos of Portugal finished third.
